How to start a business with no money. (This is not a Youtube gimmick)

Firstly this is no  Youtube ad, secondly what you are reading here is proudly human written with no Chatgpt involvement. Most importantly, what you are reading here is something that we have practised ourselves in our business even as consultants.


So is it highly possible to start a business with zero or almost zero capital? Definitely!

We have advised many a client on participating in business deals with these 2 magic words – SWEAT EQUITY.


Sweat equity in a nutshell is the knowledge you have that is valuable in 2 ways –


#1 Knowledge of a product / service

This can range from a recipe to curriculum, how to groom a dog or trim a garden hedge. Whatever the case, your knowledge is valuable!


#2 Knowledge of how to craft this product / service into a profitable business

This is basically the knowledge of how to package the product or service you have into a business that can generate money


Of the top 2, the most valuable knowledge is of course knowledge on the product or service. This beats having knowledge on how to “businessfy” or how to monetize the product or service. 

The knowledge on crafting a business out of a product or service is something most business people and consultants are good in.


So then how can you translate that idea and knowledge into something called sweat equity? Something that a person with money but have no knowledge whatsoever is willing to take a bet an invest their money with you?


These are 3 things we find are absolutely crucial to creating an attractive proposition to put yourself as a sweat equity partner ;


1.      Branding

You brand has to be strong! Meaning your vision, mission, your values, why you created the brand. These has to be all visible,

Consider Levi’s Jeans in the 1980s when they almost went bankrupt. They took a loan of 80 million pounds from the bank using their brand as collateral.

Meaning if they defaulted on their payment the bank would own the Levi’s brand. The brand is an imagination of the mind, a passion pursuit of the heart put to paper, but it does carry a lot of weight tangibly !



2.      Expertise

Be good in what you  do ! We have had clients who put their head down to bake the best cakes, teach the best lessons and are pure millionaires from their craft while attracting investors at the same time.


The pursuit of money is secondary while the honing of their craft is primary.


3.      Business Plan

Lastly, you need a business plan. 99.99% of our clients have never considered this until we ask them this golden question : “What is your end goal?’


How do you want to build our business? Organically, through franchise, partnership, licensing?


Do you want to then sell it, get it listed?


Create a business plan that generates revenue and is scalable.
