Toko Buku Gramedia, otherwise known as Gramedia bokstore is an Indonesian company with bookshops spanning Indonesia and also a major publisher in Indonesia.
Due to the lack of stringent copyright laws in Indonesia, some book titles were being freely copied and sold in the market which can lead to some significant problems including ;
• I.P. theft
• Degradation of Brand and Reputation
• Revenue Loss
Revenue loss in this case was estimated to be up to 40% considering there are places and provinces that were out of sight.
Solution
As a test case, we implemented solutions for 3 book titles that were widely copied.

Digitisation of Curriculum
Firstly, Gramedia ported some of its curriculum in their 3 books into an online portal. This allows for better control and monitor to who logs in to the portal.

Security Codes
QR Codes that can be scanned only 1 time to access online educational materials beneficial for the user that are supplementary to the curriculum.
Over a year long period we monitored the sales of 3 book titles that were widely copied with some tangible and intangible results

Revenue was increased by 20% on the 3 book titles

Email database of new users from the books were captured resulting in an expansion of the database of customers

Customer satisfaction was also increased with most viewing the web portal as value for money.
